Healthy Eating at Spring Farm Early Learning Centre
At Spring Farm Early Learning Centre, we are committed to providing nutritious and balanced meals that support children’s growth and wellbeing. We use FeedAustralia's menu planning software to create menus that align with the Australian Dietary Guidelines and meet the nutritional needs of every child in our care.
FeedAustralia allows us to assess our menus in real time, ensuring:
Appropriate nutrient, energy, and portion sizes
Compliance per child, based on meal combinations
Consideration of individual dietary needs, including allergies and intolerances
As a result, the meals we provide—across morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea—consistently meet the recommended daily servings for each food group.
Families can feel confident knowing that their child’s daily nutritional requirements are being met with care and precision.
We also view mealtimes as important social and learning opportunities. Educators sit and eat with the children, fostering a relaxed, positive atmosphere. During these shared meals, we encourage healthy eating habits and food appreciation by engaging children in conversation about what they’re eating. Staff also provide support to children who may need assistance during mealtimes.
In addition, our educational program includes food awareness and nutrition activities, such as:
Discussions about where food comes from
Food tasting experiences
Opportunities for children to participate in simple food preparation, where appropriate
These hands-on experiences help children develop lifelong skills and a positive relationship with food.
Munch & Move at Spring Farm Early Learning Centre
At Spring Farm Early Learning Centre, we proudly implement the Munch & Move program—a NSW Health initiative that promotes healthy eating, physical activity, and reduced screen time for children aged birth to five years.
Munch & Move supports our educators to embed healthy lifestyle habits into everyday routines through:
Fun and engaging movement activities
Nutrition-focused learning experiences
Positive mealtime environments
Supportive health and wellbeing messages for families
This program aligns closely with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and complements our play-based approach to learning. It helps children develop:
Fundamental movement skills
An understanding of healthy food choices
A love of being active
Our educators receive ongoing training and resources to ensure Munch & Move strategies are integrated into daily practice—both in structured group activities and through spontaneous play.
By participating in Munch & Move, we’re giving children the best possible start in life by fostering healthy habits that will benefit them for years to come.
